Basic Online Gambling Guide

You are here - Home -> Online Casino - Gambling Guide

So, what is it about online gambling you may ask? It is quite simple...basically you download (in most cases) a software client (the casino game), open an account with the casino and start playing. You will bet some money on each hand/spin and eventually will receive a payout from that bet.

Hopefully, the payout will be bigger than the bet. Below, there are few things that you should keep in mind about online gaming... especially before opening an account with a casino.

The Experience

What should I expect?
Most of the time, to lose is like paying to have fun and to take the risk of hitting a Jackpot. Online casinos are just like the land based casinos, they know most people don't know much about rules thus, will lose their money based on all sorts of mistakes.

We suggest that you read and understand the rules of the game(s) you want to play as much as you can before playing for real money. Most casinos have the option to play for fun money, they know most people eventually will convert to real money players. We have a list of casinos that you can play using fun money here.

The Casino Software

About the casino software
There are many software companies that develop casino games. Especially after 1998 when Microgaming multiplied the online gaming market by many times. At that time there were only half dozen casinos available, today we have hundreds of them...most open and close in no more than 6 months.

Every software company has different recipes but same principle. The most important component of a casino game is the RNG (Random Number Generator) module, which is the part of the software that will generate random numbers while you play.

It is quite hard to decide which software is good nowadays, they all have their good and bad selling points. Some times because people lost their money too quick at a casino, they believe that casino is not good which not every time is true. Since we deal with casinos since 1998, we assembled a list of casinos good casinos at the moment based on our experience. We hope you like the list we have here.

Which casinos should I start?
We commend new players start from our Top Casinos or from our Play for fun lists. Please make sure you know the rules of the games you want to play before playing them...don't get yourself caught on silly situations.

Is there any system that I could use to make money?
No. We studied and tried few systems since we started, some sounded very promising but they all ended up being the same. You will be better off knowing the rules and tips of the games than trying to apply any system...believe me.

How much can I win?
Well, there is no limit. It is just like the lotteries... the more you play, the more chances you have to win... of course odds are also important.

In most of the cases the games that pay more are the one with a Progressive Jackpot. Progressives are games that accumulate a main jackpot from a small amount of each bet that all players do. There is a list of casinos with Progressives here.

The payout percentage of a casino is in average 97%-98%. That means if you bet $100 you have 98% of getting it back as winnings (or payouts). Please don't get is not that the casino will keep 98% of your deposits, you might make way more money than you deposited...98% is your change of winning but you can lose 100% or your deposit anytime.

How do the online casinos promos work?
There are many types of promos at the casinos but the most famous ones at the moment are the ones based on purchasing. Basically you have to purchase a certain amount, bet/play it through few times the original deposit to receive the promo money.

Couple of years ago the play through were around 2 times, today they go in average about 10 times. Anyway that is nothing that you should worry about, as long as the time to receive the promo doesn't expire you will eventually get the money from your normal playing.

How does comps work on online casino?
Most casinos have the so-called "comp points" which are points that you get every time you bet. For every $10 in bets (not purchase) you should get 1 comp point, every 100 comp points you can exchange for $1 of casino chips. In other words, every $1000 you bet will become $1 in chips. Always check what kind of comp points a casino offer before might help you to make few extra bucks.

How can I be safe?
There are many ways, we suggest what we believe to work:

- Stick with casinos from Good software companies. In case of problem they can always give you help or at the very least give you some directions.

- Be a member of associations like the OPA (Online Players Association). The casinos now respect these guys due to their popularity.

- Surf around and learn about the casino you will bet your money on. Just a note, please don't get yourself confused by the promo abusers in the forms. These guys can easily be recognized by their strong way of complaining.

- Look for a 24/7-customer support telephone number, check if it works.

- Check how long is the casino opened for business. Rule of tomb, more than one year open is a good sign.

- Check which kind of security they offer from your computer to their casino server. If they offer SSL encryption should be fine.

Can anybody steal my credit card number while I'm playing? Well, yes but we believe that is easier to get it stolen from a restaurant (while you pay the bill) then in an online casino.

The good player

What I should not do in a casino?
One should be careful not to be called a "promo abuser" as one of the most important rules. Promo abuser is a person that tries to live from hunting promos at the casinos. Until 2000 it was easy to make the online casinos look like fools from their own promotions. The casinos are quite sophisticated these days and most of them have a pretty good fraud department so, you will get caught in no time and soon won't be any good casinos left for you to play.

It is common nowadays to go to an online gaming message board and read about people complaining that they did not received their payments or that it has being delayed. Most of time this happens with the people that try to make money from casino promotions...not by playing and winning. With the time you will identify easily these fellows and be certain, the more promo abusers, the less promotions the casinos will offer...which is bad for all of us.

If you have any ideas about using a fake or stolen credit card thinking that you can make money from them, we suggest you to forget about it. It is most likely that you might be able to play but for sure won't receive any money from it because they check a million things before sending you any money.

A good player is a person that comes to play once in a while and do not try to abuse the casino. The more you play at a casino, the better they will treat you so, try to stick with fewer casinos.

Get organized
Know how much you want to spend in a period of time prior to playing. It is common to hear about players that spend too much without noticing. Spend your money in a smart way making sure you only spend what is in your budget.
