2013 College Basketball Tournament Contests

The tournament has now concluded. Louisville prevailed in one of the most exciting championship games in recent memory. They were the favorites and received the most championship picks (189 times in the casinodave bracket contest). This year was again filled with upsets, from Florida Gulf Coast and La Salle's Sweet 16 appearances, to Wichita State's run to the Final 4, to two 4 seeds also making the Final 4. My predictions were horrible this year, you can view them here.

I sponsored a free bracket tournament with prizes this year on an ESPN account, you can view the detail for this contest here. I received a total of 734 brackets submitted this year. I would say there are approximately 300 unique players involved. There were 3 prizes this year - $50 for 1st, $30 for 2nd, and $20 for 3rd.
Louisville was taken as Champion 189 times out of 734 brackets. Indiana was 2nd with 131 selections, but they were surprised by Syracuse. Kansas was 3rd with 75 times picked as Champion, but they too were dumped in the Sweet 16 by Michigan. To let you know how important picking the Champion is in the ESPN tournament, the top 120 places all correctly had Louisville as the Champ (and 158 out of the top 160 with two Michigan predictions mixed in). The worst rank for someone who picked Louisville was 205th place and they only had 3 of the Sweet 16 picks correct and only Louisville advancing past this point.
This was an odd year for sure. Most of the top 25 brackets this year really struggled in the first two rounds. But, with all of the upsets, the people who correctly guessed Syracuse or Michigan to advance that far got a huge bump. No one saw Wichita State comming. However, some people got their brackets destroyed when Georgetown and New Mexico got bumped in the first round. Congrats to the top 3 places for winning the prizes. They were in 99.8% of all brackets (1400 points), 99.7% (1390 points), 99.6% (1370 points) respectively.

The start of the main tournament on Thursday, March 21 at 12:15 ET tipoff. Most of the March Mania contests will close between 9:00AM ET and 12:00PM ET. After that, I will label the individual contest "CLOSED" and the remaining non-bracket contests "CLOSED". The college basketball bracket contests rarely ever included the First 4 games in any contest.

Free College Basketball Tournament Contests
These free bracket contests will usually have some prizes. However, there will be millions of entries for most of these contests. If you just want to play in the bracket tournaments and don't care about winning money, check out any of these contests and play for fun.
You can often find small office pools offered in the Chat Rooms or Message Boards at some of the larger sports websites. This will usually include a small fee to place an entry along with one or more cash prizes. You can also check out the Office Pool or Pay Contests section.

Small to Mid-Sized Bracket Office Pools
I hope to add more of these small bracket pools like the ones below. There is usually a $5 to $20 entry fee per bracket and there are usually between 1 to 5 winners depending on how many people pay for a bracket.
If you are having a hard time finding one of these kind of small office pool tournaments, you can always check the chat boards on ESPN, Yahoo and so on. People will be posting on these chat boards with invitations for tournament bracket pools.

2013 College Basketball Office Pools at 5Dimes
Do you still want to participate in an office pool after the tournament starts on Thursday? You can sign up for $10 College Basketball Pick'em Pools at 5dimes. These office pools will begin Thursday March 21 and new ones begin each day after that.

5dimes will usually offer one of these pools before every day that the tournament games are played. These are winner takes 100% of the pool.
If there is more then one person with the most games correct, the tie breaker will be the Total Point for the final game on the list.
