2014 College Basketball Tournament Contests

2014-college-basketball-bracket-contests

Updated April 7, 2014 -

Once again, we have all proven that we collectively know nothing about predicting this tournament. Only one person had Connecticut as the national champion out of 1094 brackets - EricM6472 - who also won the contest this year. Only 28 brackets out of the 1094 had either team in the Finals correct. Second place was mwindsor2424 who got neither of the final 2 correct. Third place was hollydelite who would have won had Kentucky won the National Championship.

It was a great game once again this year. Uconn got off to a hot start, but Kentucky clawed their way back into the game. In the last minute, the Huskies were able to get a couple of huge plays to seal the game and the title.

If you are one of the winners, please go to the contest page here and click on the casinodave.com link at the top of the page next to the Group Creator category. Then, click on the Send Message link next to the ESPN Fan Profile and I will give you instructions for receiving your prize. I also have the same message in the Group Conversation on the ESPN group contest page. If you have any problems, post a message on the wall and I will help you out.

Congratulations to the winners and thank you all for participating. Hope to see more people again next year!

The 2014 NCAA Tournament has begun! The first game to tip-off is Ohio State vs Dayton. Most of the contests below are now closed, with the exception of the CBS Round by Round contest. If you have signed up for the CasinoDave.com Free Contest, be sure to check back here before the Championship weekend to see how your brackets did. I will leave instructions for the 3 winners here and in the ESPN group page. We have 1106 different brackets submitted this year, which is quite an increase from last year! Keep coming back as I plan to continue to offer this free contest annually.

The big contest this year is being run by Quicken Loans and played through Yahoo. This contest is the one with a $1 Billion dollar perfect bracket prize. Since a lot of us know that the perfect bracket is almost impossible, it is exciting to announce that there is a $100,000 payout (towards your mortgage or down payment for a house) for the people with the top 20 brackets nationwide. Full details can be found at Quicken Loans Bracket Rules.

Will anyone win the $1 Billion for a perfect bracket? No, of course not. There are always upsets that take out over 95% of the brackets in the first day. All you need is one Florida Gulf Coast to put a dagger in the hopes and dreams of everyone. This isn't like a lottery where someone is bound to win. The best I have ever seen anyone do is 60 out of 63. It is a shrewd move by Quicken Loans and Warren Buffet. A really quick way to make millions of people voluntarily give a phone number, email and address for later use in marketing. I've often joked that I should come out with a $100 trillion prize for a perfect bracket, but the difference is that Warren Buffet will actually pay the prize in the unlikely event that it does happen.

I am planning on hosting the 4th annual Casino Dave free bracket contest. Details for this are available here. I had about 400 entries last year and would like to see more this season! There were three cash prizes of $50, $30 and $20. There's no strings attached to this contest. Your not required to do anything, just sign up and be able to take a paypal payment if you win.

You can click here if you would like to see the last year's mens college basketball tournament bracket filled out correctly.

Also, check out the new list that has all of the local bracket contests listed out by state. I'm in the process of updating the massive list. Some old contests are no longer valid and I have removed the vast majority of them, but I am still looking to add any new ones that I may find. Many of these contests can only be won if you are from the local area of the contest. View the individual contest for more details.

You can also find more helpful information about the tournament here.

I sponsored a free bracket tournament with prizes last year on an ESPN account, you can view the detail for this contest here. I received a total of 734 brackets submitted this year. I would say there are approximately 300 unique players involved. There were 3 prizes last year - $50 for 1st, $30 for 2nd, and $20 for 3rd.

Louisville was taken as Champion 189 times out of 734 brackets. Indiana was 2nd with 131 selections, but they were surprised by Syracuse. Kansas was 3rd with 75 times picked as Champion, but they too were dumped in the Sweet 16 by Michigan. To let you know how important picking the Champion is in the ESPN tournament, the top 120 places all correctly had Louisville as the Champ (and 158 out of the top 160 with two Michigan predictions mixed in). The worst rank for someone who picked Louisville was 205th place and they only had 3 of the Sweet 16 picks correct and only Louisville advancing past this point.

Last year was an odd year for sure. Most of the top 25 brackets this year really struggled in the first two rounds. But, with all of the upsets, the people who correctly guessed Syracuse or Michigan to advance that far got a huge bump. No one saw Wichita State coming. However, some people got their brackets destroyed when Georgetown and New Mexico got bumped in the first round. Congrats to the top 3 places for winning the prizes. They were in 99.8% of all brackets (1400 points), 99.7% (1390 points), 99.6% (1370 points) respectively.

By the way, did you know that you can watch all of the tournament games online? You can watch any game online either at CBS sports or at NCAA.com?

The start of the main tournament on Thursday, March 20 at 12:15 ET tipoff. Most of the bracket contests will close between 9:00AM ET and 12:00PM ET. After that, I will label the individual contest "CLOSED" and the remaining non-bracket contests "CLOSED". The college basketball bracket contests rarely ever included the First 4 games in any contest.

You can also find a full size 2014 tournament bracket to print out here along with the bracket results for the past 5 years. Would you like to find out information on just about any previous tournament brackets? Check out Bracketscience.com's Bracket Master.

Free College Basketball Tournament Contests

These free bracket contests will usually have some prizes. However, there will be millions of entries for most of these contests. If you just want to play in the bracket tournaments and don't care about winning money, check out any of these contests and play for fun.

You can often find small office pools offered in the Chat Rooms or Message Boards at some of the larger sports websites. This will usually include a small fee to place an entry along with one or more cash prizes. You can also check out the Office Pool or Pay Contests section.

Only one bracket may be entered to win the $1 Billion in the Quicken Loans perfect bracket challenge. You will need to give a valid telephone number in order to receive entry for the $1 Billion dollar prize. The 20 $100,000 prizes will be awarded to the entries with the most accurate brackets. The $100,000 appears to be a prize towards paying down your mortgage or towards a down payment on a house and not a cash prize.
